"YOUR OWN CINEMA 3" script contest announces results

Three years in sequence the Association of Ukraine Cinema Development and Support conducts the national "Your Own Cinema" script writing Contest in the framework of "Watch Ukrainian" Project. On the basis of  contest results, the winner scripts will be adapted for the big screen, short story films will be demonstrated in national cinemas in the blocks of commercial trailers before the main session films.

"Your Own Cinema" script writing Contest was held in the period from December 2018 to April 2019. Participants applied their works according to the following topics: «People create future» and «My city». In accordance with this year theme, authors preferred topics provoking thoughts about life and time transiency, life analysis and change for the better future. This year near 500 works from all over Ukraine and abroad were applied for the contest. Jury chose 10 best scripts, authors were awarded with 10 000 UAH  and achieved the possibility of their script to be adapted for the screen.

During summary press-conference, dedicated to the contest result, Head of Ukrainian State Film Agency Pylyp Illienko thanked "Your Own Cinema 3" script writing Contest and "Watch Ukrainian" Project's initiators and supporters. He stated:

• Ukrainian State Film Agency's financial contribution to the Project is rather symbolic, but we have supported this initiative from the very beginning, participating in its concept development. I consider such approach of Ukrainian context  updating to be highly successful: having united passionate people, who see Ukrainian future, we can make Ukrainian actors' faces recognizable, we give script writers possibility to implement their ideas to life with the help of experienced filmmaking experts and  we manage to gently promote Ukrainian movie.

In accordance with "Watch Ukrainian" Project format and separate communication program development, project short story films, which production is completed, will be demonstrated in partner cinemas in trailers block before the main session film. Thereby the Jury evaluation of Contest works was based on dramatic completion of the story and possibility to adapt it for the screen in ultra short-3-minute time duration. Members of The Jury are both famous and talented film directors and cinema chains and film distribution companies reps, who actually form the film making industry trends in Ukraine. The Jury was also joint by writers, actors, and social-corporate business reps. Such a wide range of Project participants allowed Initiators to achieve stories, that will draw attention of a broader audience and it allowed to understand which topics and synopsis are mainstream.

• " Watch Ukrainian Project" and three "Your Own Cinema" contests  in particular are targeted at searching of life-afirming stories, that will be further produced in the form of short story films and distributed via diffrent channels to cover wider audience of spectators. The main thing for me is to fullfil Project with sense, that we can transfere through film stories. We can call our Project purely  popular: stories are written by Ukrainians both experienced filmmakers and authors, who make first steps in Ukrainian filmmaking process when writing their scripts and sending it to the Contest. Нагадаємо, що проект «Дивись українське» було ініційовано у 2016 році, й у грудні того ж року стартував перший конкурс сценаріїв «СВОЄ КІНО», за підсумками якого, в рамках проекту «Дивись українське» вже відзнято 20 короткометражних фільмів за сценаріями конкурсу. Важливо зазначити, що сімнадцять фільмів з 20-ти, у трихвилинних редакціях переглянуло більше ніж 1 500 000 глядачів українських кінотеатрах. Розширені режисерські редакції фільмів (хронометражем до 20-ти хвилин), з травня 2018 року запущено у фестивальну дистрибуцію. Станом на квітень 2019 року, фільми проекту «Дивись українське» отримали більше 20-ти відзнак та нагород на міжнародних кінофестивалях в Україні та за кордоном. А окремі фільми увійшли у два тематичні кіноальманахи  - «На своїй землі» та «Двері».

- Три роки тому мій Фонд почав підтримувати комплексний проект «Дивись українське», в рамках якого проходить вже третій Конкурс сценаріїв «СВОЄ КІНО». Таким чином ми стояли біля витоків цієї великої справи. Тоді в 2016 році ми ще не до кінця усвідомлювали наскільки масштабним і затребуваним виявиться цей проект. Зараз же з упевненістю можна говорити, що ініціатива Андрія Різоля була своєчасною, і вона знайшла відгук у сотень кінематографістів. Та неймовірна кількість кіносценаріїв, які щорічно надсилаються на конкурс «СВОЄ КІНО», фільми, зняті за цими сценаріями, переконали мене в необхідності подальшої підтримки проекту. Сподіваюся, кращі сценарії цього року втіляться в яскраві кінороботи, як це було в попередні роки, і відкриють Україні нові таланти, - зазначив бізнесмен і меценат Ігор Янковський.

Генеральним партнером другого та третього сезонів проекту «Дивись українське» виступає Райффайзен Банк Аваль.
